Scholars' Bowl TeamThe Varsity Scholars' bowl team received runner-up at the Tri-Valley League Scholars' Bowl tournament on Jan 23. Team members receiving silver medals and the second place trophy include: seniors Kaylyn Baker, Taran Day, Quinn Hughes, Jason Standfast and junior Dylan Nixon. The Scholars' Bowl team will complete its season on Feb. 2 competing in the 2A regional tournament at Central Burden. If the team places in one of the top three positions they will qualify for the 2A state tournament hosted at Bluestem on Feb. 11. Contact Mr, Day or Mr. Brown if you are willing to help.

In preparation for the play, the Drama class has started the process of building the stage and the actors started practice on Jan 20. The play will be performed Feb. 25, following the Holocaust Museum, which will be presented by the English 9 classes. The English classes have been reading books and gathering research about the Holocaust to prepare for the museum. Freshman Kourtney Flowers, Andrea Harlan and Caroline Scott read the book, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne. "We learned about the experiences of Jews placed in concentration camps from a nine-year-old's perspective," Flowers said. Zachary DePoppe, Kagen Benton and Eathan Elliott read the book The Boys Who Challenged Hilter by Phil Hoose. "Our book shared stories about boys who stole guns and sabotaged vehicles to protect the Jews," Zachary DePoppe said.

The fishing league will participate in the SAF open events and the 2017 State Championship Tournament. "I am excited for the first year, and I feel we have some good competitors who have a chance at placing in the tournaments," freshman Garrett Korte. The shooting team will participate in five state competitions and the state tournament. The club is looking for sponsors, with the sponsors name or emblem placed on the fishing team's jersey and the shooting team's shirt.
