The FFA and Ag department planned a week of activities to promote their organizations and careers. "FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education," Kieffer said. The FFA week consisted of activities that helped students learn about agricultural life in an enjoyable. "FFA Week is supposed to intrigue the students, get them involved, and show them the many aspects of the Agriculture field. FFA is not just farmers and ranchers. It is the future biologists, mechanics, marketers, engineers, etc. During this week we tried to introduce all of these aspects in a fun relatable way, concluding with our big service event, the Career Day. The goal is to create at least one service opportunity that can better the community and our students," Mrs. Kieffer.
Brandy Rigg brought her family's goats to demonstrate milking and the process of taking care of the animals on a farm. Daniel Scribner showed his strength as he won the hay bail lifting contest in an astounding 24 seconds and a 3x3x3 stack. The cheese tasting booth provided three different types of cheese. "Overall, I feel like the week went very well. It is hard to overcome people's perception that Ag is just production (farming and ranching). Helping them see all of the other opportunities within this field and helping kids succeed whether in an Ag career or not is the main goal of FFA. I hope that we get this message across and help as many students as we can be prepared and successful once they leave our buildings," Kieffer said. After the FFA activities, Mrs. Kieffer and Mrs. McCaffree arranged a career day with 25 presenters, that would benefit students by learning about various interests from professionals already in the field."FFA hosted this event to expose students to career opportunities in our area. Presenters were asked to discuss employability skills and what they look for in one of their associates. They also discussed the different levels of jobs within their company, and what type of education they would need for each level," Kieffer said. |
