On Thursday, April 14, Mr. Day invited Alicia from the Great Plains Nature Center in Wichita to share and teach his zoology students about some Kansas animals. In her presentation, she brought a few of her animal friends; an owl, a tiger salamander, and a snake. She spoke about each one and even allowed students to pet the animals. Then on Tuesday, April 18, Mr. Day's zoology students took a trip to Eagle Valley Raptor Center outside of Cheney. Surprisingly, the facility is at the home of a man who takes in injured birds and nurses them back to health. Currently, Ken Lockwood has four different types of owls, a bald eagle, a golden eagle, two types of falcons, a hawk, and a turkey vulture. Ken allows families and schools to visit for tours. The tour lasts for about two hours and he gives everyone a chance to participate either by feeding or being a helper in some of his tricks. Overall, it was a great experience for the students, which took learning to a new level.

Band & Vocal Concert Tuesday, May 9 at 6 p.m.The junior high and high school band and choir will hold a combined performance Tuesday evening. The groups have been preparing for this concert during class with extra practice during advisory. The students are very excited to showcase their talents. "The high school band & choir are working on "More Cowbell" and it sounds really cool with us playing together. We have Mr. Mohr, Mr. Brown and Mr. Wuthrich playing the cowbell while we play. We have bass guitar, trap set and a lot of instruments this time," 7th grader Grace Turner said. This will be their last concert of the year so be there to support your band and vocal classes.
Art show to be held during concertThe art classes have put together drawings and paintings that will see at the band and vocal concert. The art classes created pieces for the band performance based on what they thought the songs meant. Also there will be art work on display, which students have done throughout the school year. "There is a piece of art form almost everyone in class," Mr. Gomez said.
